Manitoba Black Bear
have color phases of brown, chocolate, cinnamon, blonde, off white and black.  Some have white blazes on their chest.  Spring bear average weights are 250 Lbs. with some large boars weighing up to 500 lbs. plus.  It's my preference to hunt spring bears because their natural food sources are scarce at this time.  The bears are hungry in spring and will frequently visit the bait sites.  In the fall bears have a large supply of food sources with berries and grain crops.  This in turn makes fall hunting very challenging.  
In Manitoba it is illegal to shoot a female bear with any cubs.
